11/11/2023 0 Comments Carla cooking showWhat have you been eating and making while staying home lately?ĬH: The other day I had made a hollandaise which was so delicious, so I had these egg whites, and I already had some black bean soup. It was just nothing that I did, and the funny thing is that I’m all about technology and food and pushing the boundaries, but I think it really was this emotional disconnect to sous vide because Top Chef was so stressful for me that I was thrown into it without knowing about it and then I just said well I don’t need that, right? So I’ve discarded all of those myths or blocks in my head, and so now it’s like oh my gosh, this is amazing. I mean like baby new, I mean in the last six months new, like really new. So you’re fairly new to sous vide, it sounds like?ĬH: I’d never had a circulator ever. One of the things that I’ve wanted to do-oh, I’ve done beans, I’ve done sorghum, I’ve done oatmeal-one of the things that I want to try are collard greens. I’ve done chicken, I’ve done vegetables, I’ve done, like, pork chops, like really thick pork chops. How do you like to use sous vide at home now that you’re playing around with it?ĬH: Yeah, so I’m playing around. Sous-Vide spoke to her about some of her recent kitchen adventures at home. She also recently partnered with Sous-Vide magazine publisher Cuisine Solutions for a miniseries, “ Dining Out at Home,” in which she prepares restaurant-quality meals using their fully cooked sous vide products. For the International Sous Vide Day 2020 celebration in Washington, D.C., where she also lives, she served Short-cut Deviled Eggs over Smashed Potatoes with Mustard Seed Drizzle using Cuisine Solutions’ Sous Vide Poached Egg. Although she’s regarded for her cookbooks and has appeared on television shows such as Top Chef, Top Chef: All Stars, and The Chew, Hall describes herself as “baby new” to sous vide. Don't waste your time I already wasted too much of my own time giving 'The Chew' a chance.Like so many of us, Carla Hall is cooking a lot at home these days. Maybe this show is a way of passing the time by while saving money, but it certainly does not help me- as a viewer- 'pass the time by' nor does it entertain or inform. It's plain meaningless and hard to watch. There are countless food channels, which I turn on occasionally, but these hosts are not 'stars' nor are they authority figures of any sort. The premise of this show is meaningless and the show itself is lifeless. I watched it a total of 3 times (and that was quite a task, not turning it off!), and I feel like I have seen enough for a lifetime. I can't imagine 'The Chew' ever lasting more than a year or two. I watched the first episode with an open mind it was fake and contrived and boring, to be honest. I don't understand how this show could ever captivate people? It certainly didn't captivate me. Frankly, my review of 'The Chew' doesn't really have much to do with the soaps, except to say that it is an utter shame that something so preciously multi-generational and meaningful in TV history- not to mention to countless fans- was replaced by something so insulting. I will confess, I have watched All My Children before (but I wasn't a long time viewer or anything- I just appreciate the genre and think highly of it, despite the cultural stigma) I'd watch the soaps when I was home, sick from school, or on holiday.
